Royal Armouries is an organisation that manages museums and historical collections in different places around the U.K., including the Tower of London and (more importantly!) Leeds.
They actually have a long history, dating back to the Middle Ages, and look after the U.K.’s collection of arms and armour.
The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds has a fantastic collection of armour and weapons from the U.K.’s past, including a Second World War display, a collection of weapons inspired by Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings books, weapons and armour from Tudor England, and a range of “self-defence kits” from different parts of modern and ancient history.
It’s an exciting and interesting place to visit while staying in Leeds, and an opportunity to immerse yourself in English!
Some of our students at the Leeds School of English recently went to see the collections for themselves!
